Britannia Taxis and Veezu Back Wigan's Community with Donations to Over Seven Local Causes
3 April 2024
Britannia Taxis, one of Wigan’s leading private hire operators, is focusing on the local community by donating to over seven local causes this spring.
Britannia is a regional hub of the UK’s fastest growing private hire technology platform Veezu and has stepped in to support these causes through the Funded by Veezu community support scheme.
The team at Britannia volunteered at Fur Clemt, a local community supermarket that is part of the global 'Real Junk Food' movement, and donated to the cause. The organisation reduces edible wasted food reaching landfill by collecting it from suppliers and making it available to the community through its cafes, food outlets and food sharing scheme.
Sports teams have also taken focus at Britannia, with Bold Miners Football Club u11s, Parkdale Sidac Football Club u10s Rangers, Haresfinch Rugby Club, Clock Face Miners Rugby Club and Prescot Cables Football Club all receiving cash donations to sponsor them for the season.
Bold Miners Football Club u11s is a local grassroots team that plays in the Mersey Youth League. This partnership has already led to the purchase of a new kit for the team so they can enjoy their games in style.
Luke Lawson, Manager at Bold Miners, said: “We can’t thank Britannia enough for their support, sponsoring the team for the next two years. Their donation has helped us purchase new kits for the whole team, helping them not only look the part but giving them a lot of confidence on the pitch.”
Parkdale Sidac FC is one of the fastest growing football clubs in the St Helens and Merseyside area, training with 28 teams, over 350 players of all abilities and 70 experienced and qualified coaches. Previously named Liverpool County FA Community Club of The Year and North-West FA Community Club of The Year, they welcome young people of any age and ability, with the focus on children learning through fun. The u10 Rangers team have used the donation to purchase a new kit.
Ian Price, Coach of Parkdale Sidac FC’s u10s Rangers team and Driver-Partner with Veezu, said: “We are delighted to be continuing Parkdale Sidac FC’s relationship with Britannia. With our club growing more and more each season, it is a priority to ensure safe travel can be achieved to and from our training and matches - whatever the weather.
“Being a coach, I see the broad range of young people that we welcome each year, and to be able to provide a full kit so that every child can feel included is a real honour. We are very grateful to Veezu for their financial support.”
Another local cause which has benefited from Britannia’s support is upcoming darts superstar Harrison Leigh. Training partner to Luke Littler, Harrison is working his way through the performance pathway but access to national tournaments comes with a cost. Veezu has sponsored Harrison for the season, seeing their name appear on his shirt whilst funding his entry in tournaments for the year.
Rosanna Hynes, Hyperlocal Marketing Manager at Britannia Taxis, said: “We’re so proud to be able to support so many causes close to our heart this spring. With the new Funded by Veezu community support programme offering support up to £1000, it gives local causes the opportunity to grow and develop, and receive the funds they need.”
