Safe Rides for The Sheffield College Students

1 November 2023

Veezu, formerly known as City Taxis, has pledged to support college students throughout the year with the Veezu Safe Ride Scheme.

In partnership with The Sheffield College, the initiative ensures that all students can get a lift home, even if they don’t have the money for the fare.

Operating 24 hours a day, seven days a week, students in vulnerable situations can book a journey with Veezu up to the value of £10, by phoning 0114 235 8997 and quoting ‘Veezu Safe Rides’. A vehicle will be sent to the student as a priority, and the student will be required to hand over their student ID card to the driver-partner as temporary payment. Within 72 hours the student card will be returned to the college, where the student can collect and settle their fare.

Sacha Skinner, Regional Marketing Manager at Veezu, said: “Having run the Safe Ride Scheme with University of Sheffield and Sheffield Hallam University for over ten years, we understand the importance of providing safe and reliable transportation options to the student community. As the winter months roll in, our commitment to safety and convenience drives us to offer this service to The Sheffield College students, ensuring they can always get home safe without worry over finding the money for their taxi fare.”

James Smythe, Vice Principal, Student Experience, The Sheffield College, said: "The safety of our students is of paramount importance. We welcome being part of this scheme which aims to provide travel reassurance and support to students when they need it."
